Outpatient Program (OP) in Massachusetts

OP is the final, short-term phase of care at Grand Rising — one day a week, one to three hours, for adults who have completed PHP or IOP. It exists to reinforce what you have built and to hand your care off smoothly to a long-term provider in your community.

Time Commitment

1–3 hours

The Outpatient Program (OP) at Grand Rising Behavioral Health is a short-term step-down — one day a week, one to three hours — for clients finishing a structured program. Where PHP and IOP do the intensive work of stabilizing symptoms and building skills, OP protects that progress during the transition back to fully independent life.

We are deliberate about what OP is not: it is not an entry point into treatment. Admission at Grand Rising runs through PHP or IOP first, because the adults we serve need more than an hour or two a week to make initial progress. OP is reserved for clients who have already done that work with us.

It is also time-limited by design. The goal isn't to keep you in treatment — it is to reinforce coping and regulation skills, confirm they are holding in daily life, and complete a warm handoff to a community provider who will support you for the long term.

Who OP Is Designed For

OP serves one specific group: adults completing a structured program at Grand Rising. It may be your next step if you:

  • Have completed PHP or IOP — and want a bridge between several clinical days a week and full independence.
  • Want your skills tested against real life — with a weekly session to troubleshoot what daily life is actually throwing at you.
  • Are transitioning to a community provider — and benefit from overlap while you establish care with a long-term therapist or prescriber.
  • Value continuity through the finish — completing treatment with the same team that treated you, rather than ending structured care abruptly.

If you are seeking care for the first time, we would point you to our PHP or IOP instead — call us and we will help you find the right starting point.

What's Included in OP

  • A short, time-limited transition phase. OP is a defined final chapter of your program — not an open-ended commitment.
  • Reinforcement of coping and regulation skills. Weekly sessions revisit and strengthen the skills you built in PHP and IOP as you use them in the real world.
  • A supported handoff to community care. We help connect you with a long-term outpatient provider in your community and keep seeing you while that relationship gets established.
  • Continuity with your Grand Rising team. Available to clients who completed a structured program with us — in person at the Norwood location or via telehealth for eligible Massachusetts residents.

Conditions We Treat in OP

Group therapy session at Grand Rising Behavioral Health

OP continues care for the same conditions treated in our structured programs — anxiety, depression, PTSD and trauma, and substance use, including co-occurring (dual-diagnosis) presentations. Because every OP client arrives from PHP or IOP, your clinicians already know your history; OP focuses on keeping recovery stable rather than starting new treatment.

  • Anxiety — keeping regulation skills sharp as everyday stressors return.
  • Depression — protecting the routines and momentum built during treatment.
  • PTSD and trauma — consolidating gains from trauma-informed work, including CBT, DBT, and EMDR.
  • Substance use and co-occurring conditions — reinforcing relapse-prevention skills through the transition to community support.

What to Expect: From Admissions to First Session

Three simple steps from your first call to your first session — no referral needed.

1

Confidential Consult → Clinical Assessment → Personalized Plan

Call our 24/7 admissions line or send a message. We'll ask about symptoms, safety needs, and your goals, then schedule a comprehensive assessment. Your clinician will recommend the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) & Outpatient Program (OP) based on functioning, risk, and availability, and will explain why.

2

Insurance Verification & Cost Transparency

Grand Rising Behavioral Health is out-of-network for insurance. Many clients with PPO plans use out-of-network benefits; others choose private pay. Our team will verify benefits, estimate costs and deductible implications, and provide documentation to help with reimbursement.

OP Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Outpatient Program for?+

OP is a short, time-limited transition phase after PHP or IOP. Its job is to reinforce the coping and regulation skills you built in structured treatment, confirm they are holding in daily life, and support your handoff to a long-term provider in your community.

Who qualifies for OP?+

OP is available to clients who have completed a structured program — PHP or IOP — at Grand Rising. It is not an entry point: if you are seeking care for the first time, admission goes through PHP or IOP first, and our admissions team will help you find the right starting level.

How long does OP last?+

OP is short-term by design, but there is no one-size-fits-all length and we don't promise a fixed duration. Your care team reviews your progress regularly and recommends how long the transition phase should run based on how your skills are holding up in daily life.

What happens after OP?+

Your care continues with a long-term outpatient provider in your community — a therapist, prescriber, or both. We support that handoff directly, helping you establish the new relationship before your time at Grand Rising ends so there is no gap in care.

Do you take insurance for OP?+

Grand Rising is an out-of-network provider. We work with PPO plans that include out-of-network benefits and accept private pay. Because OP follows PHP or IOP, our admissions team will already have verified your benefits — and they are reachable anytime. Just call our 24/7 admissions line.
