Substance Use Treatment in Massachusetts

Outpatient addiction care that fits your life — evidence-based, discreet, and built around lasting recovery. At Grand Rising Behavioral Health, we help adults stop the cycle of alcohol and drug use, manage cravings, and rebuild stable daily routines through an outpatient continuum that fits your week. If you need medical detox first, we'll help you coordinate it and step you into care when you're stabilized.

Levels of Care That Fit Your Week

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

🗓 5 days a week🕒 approx 5 hours a day

Our most structured outpatient level of care. PHP blends group therapy, individual sessions, and psychiatric services into a full daily schedule — built for adults who need the daily rhythm to stabilize after a hospitalization, during a behavioral health crisis, or when session-based therapy hasn't held.

Program components

  • Group and individual therapy woven into every day
  • Psychiatric services delivered inside the program
  • CBT, DBT, and trauma-informed care
  • In-person at our Norwood location or via telehealth

Outpatient Program (OP)

🗓 1 day a week🕒 approx 1–3 hours a day

A short-term step-down phase after a structured program — focused on reinforcing the skills you built and handing off to your long-term community provider. It isn't an entry point and it isn't ongoing therapy. Admission to our programming goes through PHP or IOP first.

Program components

  • Short, time-limited transition phase
  • Reinforces coping and regulation skills
  • Supports handoff to a community outpatient provider
  • Available to clients who've completed a structured program with us

Evidence-Based Treatments We Use

Relapse Prevention & Motivational Interviewing

As a behavioral health center offering addiction care in Norwood, MA, Grand Rising provides relapse-prevention therapy, CBT and DBT skills, trauma-informed care, and medication support within out Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Outpatient Program (OP) levels of care — coordinated with your prescribers and any detox or medical providers.

We help you identify triggers, build coping skills, and create a concrete plan to handle high-risk situations. Motivational interviewing meets you where you are and strengthens your own reasons for change — no shame, no lectures.

Skills-Based CBT & DBT

CBT reframes the thoughts that drive use and rebuilds healthy routines. DBT skills (mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, interpersonal effectiveness) reduce impulsive reactions and help you sit with cravings without acting on them. Between-session practice turns these into daily habits.

Medication Management

For some people, medication reduces cravings and supports recovery. Our prescribers evaluate fit, explain options in plain language, and coordinate medication-assisted treatment so they support — not replace therapy.

Trauma-Informed, Dual-Diagnosis Care

Substance use and trauma, depression, or anxiety often travel together. We treat them in the same plan rather than sending you to two places.

What to Expect: From Admissions to First Session

Three simple steps from your first call to your first session — no referral needed.

1

Confidential Consult → Clinical Assessment → Personalized Plan

Call our 24/7 admissions line or send a message. We'll ask about symptoms, safety needs, and your goals, then schedule a comprehensive assessment. Your clinician will recommend the Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) & Outpatient Program (OP) based on functioning, risk, and availability, and will explain why.

2

Insurance Verification & Cost Transparency

Grand Rising Behavioral Health is out-of-network for insurance. Many clients with PPO plans use out-of-network benefits; others choose private pay. Our team will verify benefits, estimate costs and deductible implications, and provide documentation to help with reimbursement.

Telehealth Options for Massachusetts Residents

When clinically appropriate, secure telehealth sessions are available to Massachusetts residents. We'll confirm eligibility, technology needs, and whether your specific program (e.g., the Intensive Outpatient Program) can be offered virtually or in a hybrid format.

How We Measure Progress (Without Overpromising)

Goals you set with your clinician

We prioritize the goals that make recovery feel worth it — staying present for your family, returning to work, rebuilding trust, and protecting the sobriety you've fought for.

Recovery and Functioning Check-Ins

Short check-ins track cravings, mood, sleep, and daily functioning, along with the situations that raise your risk. Data isn't the whole story; your lived experience guides every adjustment to the plan.

Your Relapse-Prevention Plan

Before step-down, you'll leave with a written plan: your high-risk triggers, coping and refusal skills, your support network, and exactly what to do if you slip. We can coordinate with outpatient providers, mutual-aid groups, and medication providers to keep care connected.

FAQs About Substance Use Treatment in Massachusetts

Do you provide medical detox?+

We're an outpatient program, so we don't provide medical detox on-site. If you need detox first, we'll help you coordinate it and step you into our PHP or IOP program once you're medically stable.

What is dual-diagnosis (co-occurring) treatment?+

It means treating a substance use disorder and a mental health condition — like depression, anxiety, or PTSD — at the same time, in one coordinated plan. It's a core strength of ours.

What's the difference between Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), and Outpatient Program (OP)?+

The Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP) is the most structured — a full daily schedule. The Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is a lower daily intensity that fits alongside work or family. The Outpatient Program (OP) is a short-term step-down that reinforces your skills before handing off to long-term community support.

Can I do substance use treatment via telehealth in Massachusetts?+

Yes — eligible MA residents have the option to attend our outpatient programming by secure telehealth. We'll advise when in-person is the better fit.

How does out-of-network insurance work?+

Many PPO plans reimburse a portion of out-of-network care. We verify your benefits up front and explain your estimated costs before you start — no surprises.

Will treatment be confidential?+

Yes. Care is private and HIPAA-protected — important for the professionals and individuals we serve.
